Treasure

On the Bird Woman's property there is a creek.
Whenever I take my daughter down to play in it I spend my time looking for fossils.
I found this rock which possibly contains some Fenestella.
I continued looking and skipping rocks with my daughter and a few moments later found another rock like it a few feet away.

They were a match.

I consider this rock a treasure.

Greenery update

The garden is doing well.

The tomatoes are a jungle.
A blighted jungle, but still thriving.

The lettuce is growing along the ground in thick vines but still tastes great.

The 3 carrots that came up are like pencils, and that's being generous.

The peppers themselves look great, however the plants do not.

The bird woman ordered the red tulips to fill this bed.
It will look stunning next spring.

My Lucky Evening

I have the greatest pity for people who have never found a four leaf clover.
I cannot fathom that.
I have found more than I can keep track of.
I found these 4 in less than five minutes tonight.

If you are desperate to find more clovers, look at every clover in a 12" by 12" patch.
If you do not find one, move a few feet away, and repeat.
When you do find one, don't pick it right away.  Look at it among the other clover and grass.
Look away and look back again.
Do this until you are able to find it easily.
This will help your brain remember how to pick out the four leaf pattern from the rest of the ordinary clover.
You can actually train yourself to pick out four leaf clovers without thinking about it.

If you find one, you are likely to find others nearby.

Fall is coming

Fall is coming.

It's over 90 here today, but I can smell Autumn.
The wind sucks out the perfume of the earth and blows it into my hair and heart and I feel more alive.
I can't explain it solidly, but I'm already thinking about the first frost, planting tulips with the Bird Woman, and raking leaves.

Fall is coming.

The same sense that pulls the birds to warmer weather makes me want to stay right here and enjoy this spot as though I've never seen it before.

Fall is coming.

It's not the celebration of Spring or the chaos of Summer, but the quieting of the festivities.
All the life you gathered in the warm months settles down in the the nooks and crannies of your heart and home to sustain you through the winter.

Fall is coming.

Fall is my favorite.
Fall in the Ozarks is my very favorite.

Bulls...

We went to the fair Thursday night and watched the bull riding.
The night was beautiful and it was so exciting to watch.
Only 2 or 3 people made it a full 8 seconds the first round.

We were only able to stay till intermission, but it was worth it.
