Yes, I tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk.
No, it didn't work.

At 3 o'clock I placed my trusty cast iron out on the concrete pad that we share with our apartment neighbors.
No one was outside, but I put a do not touch sticky note on the handle, just in case.  We're not the only dumpster diving scroungers in the neighborhood.
By 4 o'clock the temperature was 101 degrees and it was now or never.
With Jane on one hip and a camera on the other, I cracked a depressingly thin shelled store bought egg on to the hot pan.
Nothing happened.
After 5 minutes I noticed the edges of the egg beginning to turn a pale grey color.  When they began to flutter with the heat, I had new hope.  I retreated to our air-conditioned kitchen to wait.
The first picture is after half and hour.
This, is after 3 hours.
The white of the egg did cook, and then promptly blew away.  It looked neat at least.
The yolk was a sort of runny jellied lump.  I didn't classify it as edible.

I can now say that I tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk - and failed.
